Sleep Patterns Cause Obesity

One more study supporting the theory that the duration of sleep affects a person's body weight. A study conducted the National Center for Health Statistics United States concluded that people who sleep less than 6 hours or more than 9 hours per day potentially more overweight (obesity) than those with normal sleep time.

This study is based on door-to-door survey of 87 thousand citizens of the United States that has grown among 2004-2006. The result, they have time to sleep less than 6 hours, 33% are obese, while those who have time to sleep more than 9 hours, 26% and those with normal sleep time is only 22% are obese.

James Gangwisch, a sleep researcher from the University of Colombia said it was time to sleep is not really very closely related to the imbalance of hormones that affect appetite and the high potential for diabetes and high blood pressure.

This study reinforces the results of previous research by a team led by Jean-Philippe Chaput from Laval University, Canada. They examined the sleep habits and weight 276 people over a period of 6 years. The result, 35% of those who have time to sleep between 5-6 hours and 25% of those who slept more than 9 hours of experiencing weight gain 11 pounds. Meanwhile, the weights of their bodies have time to sleep 7-8 hours steady.
