IF you include people who often have difficulty sleeping (insomnia), it helps a little wary. According to researchers from Harvard Medical School and the University of California at Berkeley, United States, people who sleep less because of having trouble falling asleep tended to greater risk of experiencing psyche, aka mental disorder.
According to the study, lack of sleep will result in reduced some body functions. Including setting the immune system and metabolic system. Sleep deprivation also resulted in reduced power of learning and memory. Brain scans performed in the study also showed that the brain is experiencing lack of sleep will become very tired and emotional to be abnormal.
Researchers studied 35 participants who did not sleep for 35 hours. By using Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (FMRI), researchers observed the flow of blood circulation in the brain. From the same tool, researchers can see which parts of the brain that have increased activity.
After so long without sleep, participants were asked to look at the pictures that stimulate their emotional responses. Their responses can be sad, angry, or happy. Apparently, part of the brain amygdala showed an increase of 60% when compared to normal sleep. The amygdala is part of the brain associated with emotional reactions of men. That means, the conditions experienced by lack of sleep can lead to the release of excessive responses.
According to researcher Matthew Walker, as revealed by medicalnewstoday, without sleep, abnormal brain activity, not able to process an emotional experience that goes into the brain for processing into the appropriate response and control. Several previous studies have indeed indicated psyche disorder patients generally also suffer from sleep disorders.
