HERE are the treatments and alternative therapies are recommended for patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Alternative medicine is a treatment that has been declared safe or effective to address certain conditions. Alternative treatments ranging from diet and exercise to mental conditions change in lifestyle. Alternative medicine includes acupuncture, yoga, aromatherapy, relaxation, healing with herbs, and massage.
Sports. Sports, such as tai chi and yoga can reduce stress and make you more relaxed, increase energy, balance, and flexibility. As with other exercise program, consult your doctor before starting.
Diet. It's important for people who suffer from Multiple Sclerosis to follow a healthy balanced diet. Consult with your doctor to find the right diet for you.
Another alternative treatment for Multiple Sclerosis
Massage. Most people with Multiple Sclerosis do the massage on a regular basis to help them relax and reduce stress and depression, which in turn could reduce the disease. There is no evidence that massage can alter the disease. Typically, massage is safe to do, but if you are experiencing thinning of the bones due to osteoporosis, a massage can be dangerous. We recommend that you consult with your doctor.
Acupuncture. Some people with Multiple Sclerosis claim that acupuncture can relieve symptoms such as pain, muscle spasms, or bladder problems. There are no scientific studies confirming that acupuncture is safe for people with Multiple Sclerosis. You also need to remember, there is always a risk when piercing the body with a needle procedure as is done in acupuncture. Infection is a major risk. If not using a sterile technique, acupuncture can also transmit hepatitis or HIV.
Evening primrose oil (linoleic acid). Linoleic acid is also found in sunflower seeds. There is some evidence to suggest that linoleic acid oral supplements may improve the symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis.
Marijuana. The use of marijuana to treat the disease is still controversial. Some people with Multiple Sclerosis claim, smoking marijuana can help relieve spasticity and other Multiple Sclerosis symptoms. However, there is little evidence to show that marijuana really works. Research is still ongoing. However, until more evidence is found, doctors do not recommend marijuana to treat Multiple Sclerosis.
