Cycling and Bone Strength

Cycling proven to strengthen the cardiovascular system. However, it was kind of sport is not the best for strengthening bones.

Pam Hinton, researchers from the University of Missouri, USA, tested the strength of the bones of 27 athletes racing bikes and 16 runners aged 20 to 59 years who have done these sports activities for six hours per week for two years.
The result, 63% cycling athletes have osteopenia, whereas only 19% of the runners.

Osteopenia is a bone disorder, i.e. its thickness is lower when compared to normal, but not so low that it no longer categorized as osteoporosis.

According to Hinton, it happens because in cycling there are no such barriers in the run. "In cycling, the legs do not run into obstacles. Pedal to become the foundation helped move the earth so that there are no barriers to your body," he said.

Hinton recommends cyclists vary in their programs, such as running, playing basketball or football, and jump rope.
