Interferon and Ribavirin for Hepatitis C

PEOPLE infected with hepatitis C is usually treated with interferon alone or in combination of interferon with ribavirin. Interferon is a protein that is not strange for human body.

In fact, the body continuously produce interferon, and interferon production will be more and more as the body attempts to fight against the virus.

Although interferon is produced by the body, but to treat hepatitis c interferon injections are needed as well. Interferon may help suppress the virus in two ways:

First, attach to healthy cells and helps cells defend against the virus. Second, help the immune system in stopping the proliferation of the virus. Interferon is used to treat hepatitis C include interferon alpha and pegylated interferon alfa. Pegylated interferon alfa-2a is a new drug and is most effective against hepatitis C.

People infected with Hepatitis C is usually treated with interferon alone or in combination of interferon with ribavirin. In fact, the actual body continually produces interferon, and interferon production will be more and more as the body attempts to fight against the virus

Ribavirin is a drug that is often combined with injections of interferon alfa to help stop the proliferation of hepatitis C virus This drug should not be used singly, but can assist the work of interferon alpha.

The use of pegylated interferon alfa-2a is to be injected once a week. While ribavirin is an oral drug that requires that you take some tablets/capsules per day. However, for the use of interferon alfa long, usually injected three times a week.

For patients with chronic Hepatitis C, regular treatment and have the opportunity to fully recover higher. Do not change the treatment without talking with your doctor first.
