Eating Disorders Child and The Trigger
Triggers of eating disorders in boys and girls were not the same.
Researchers from Harvard Medical School and Children's Hospital Boston, analyzed data on more than 12,500 children aged 9-15 years in the U.S.. They found 10.3% of girls and 3% of boys started to binge eating or drinking a laxative at least once a week for weight control.
They say eating disorders among girls largely due to the desire to look like women in magazines or television. Meanwhile, in boys, eating disorders are often triggered by the father's comments about weight.
Prevention strategies in girls should be more focused on the understanding that they do not have to look like models or movie stars. On the other hand, the boy, his approach is more on how to make them more 'immune' to the negative comments about weight.
