Napping Reduces Cardiovascular Risk
It turned out that besides nap can reduce stress and can make people relax, is also able to reduce the risk of heart attack, especially among young executives.
The researchers conducted the study for six years in Greece, showed that those who napped for half an hour at least three times a week had a 37% lower risk of heart attack.
Countries that used to do a nap tend to have lower risk of heart attack, but from various studies on these show different results.
Dr Dimitros Trichopoulos of the Harvard School of Public Health asked respondents whether they take a nap during the day and how often the respondent to do so, besides Trichopoulos also asks about diet and physical activity daily.
The male employees who take a nap during the day, on average have 64% lower risk of death than men who did not work.
Trichopoulos and his colleagues say that in some countries, the siesta is common. But to note, said Trichopoulos, the study uses a lot of respondents, limited to people who are healthy and careful in controlling physical activity.
One factor that should not be overlooked is people should not be reduced physical activity the day after a midday nap.
June Davison, from the British Heart Foundation says the findings suggest interesting nap is concerned with the reduction in deaths from heart problems, especially among male workers.
"Sleep for a while during the day to help people unwind and relax, which is very important for overall health," said Davison.
"But it is also important to balance between rest and activity due to regular physical activity also reduces the chances of developing heart disease," he said.
