Beware of Type 1 Diabetes in Children

Type 1 diabetes is called insulin-dependent diabetes or juvenile diabetes, suffered by children and adolescents. More rare are found compared with type two diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes is caused due to genetic factors and other factors.
Type 1 diabetes often appears suddenly in childhood (under age 20 years), with certain symptoms. Like, drastic weight loss, tiredness, frequent urination, and often feel hungry or thirsty.

Research World Health Organization (WHO) shows the rapid growth of type 1 diabetes in the world. There are several risk factors for type 1 diabetes type:

1. Family health history with type 1 diabetes. However, 80% of patients with type 1 diabetes have no family history of type 1 diabetes circuitry.

2. Viral infection, mumps or measles, can cause immune reactions and can destroy the cells that produce insulin.

3. Viral infections during pregnancy can increase a child's risk of developing type 1 diabetes. More than 20% of children exposed to infection while in the womb (an infection contracted from her mother), will be affected by type 1 diabetes in 5 to 20 years.

How to diagnose type 1 diabetes is to check blood sugar levels, coupled with the presence of ketones in the urine. This is done enough to know and ascertain whether someone suffering from type 1 diabetes or not.

People with type 1 diabetes should avoid sugar levels through normal limits, either too low or too high, hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, as both can be fatal. Hyperglycemia can cause damage to small blood vessels and will cause permanent damage if not given immediate action while hypoglycemia causes loss of consciousness.
