Hunger Can Make Us Happy

It turned out that hunger can make us happy. Even the hungry can be a motivator to help us find food.

Thus the results of a study published in the journal Nature Neuroscience some time ago. When hungry, the body will require more calories are accompanied by increased ghrelin hormone or hormones are known to promote hunger. However, some researchers argue the function of ghrelin was a side effect of his main job as a 'stress reliever'.

According to these studies, feeling happy when hungry is a measure of self-adjustment. This study exemplifies the human requires concentration, clear perception, and work together to get food in the world 'wild'. When hunger makes us run in panic, ghrelin will encourage and focus us to look for food.

In this study, the researchers move ghrelin levels in mice with various methods, including injections. The result, mice with limited ghrelin levels look more 'sluggish' while swimming in the water. Meanwhile mice with high ghrelin levels appear more vibrant. In fact, rats are also more sensitive to the new environment and better able to relate socially with other mice.

Even so, hunger is not the only means of pressure which led to increased ghrelin. Social fear also was able to stimulate it. Rising hormone could be the reason why a person eats too much when under pressure.

If the consumption of snacks that are driven stress can be avoided, perhaps ghrelin levels will remain high. Thus helping we confront the sources of stress in a calm and effective.

Meanwhile, the center of Medicine University of Texas researcher, Michael Lutter, declared a regular encouragement of ghrelin may lead to addiction. Just like anorexics who suffer from hunger and stress voluntary. "The effects of antidepressants will not appear until you lose 10% to 15% total weight of your body," said Lutter.
